Things and Stuff

I got a little bit more written for War In Flesh and I dreamed up a lot of scenes for Second Chances. I also got some work done on the secondary project I’m working on. Overall yesterday was a pretty decent day of writing, despite spending a good portion of it running errands.

Today I want to get to writing. I had some inspiration regarding War In Flesh that I need to get written before it gets away from me. Then I’d like to do some more on Second Chances. I really want to finish up the Gatchaman article I’m working on for The Geek Girl Project too. So a very busy day just in what I’d like to get done for writing and that doesn’t include all of the regular chores and what-not I have to do.

I need to take a look at which Godzilla movie is next in the line up and maybe I can watch that while I iron. It’s going to be a fun day. K.

Heroes in Boston, War In Flesh Slow Going & Other Things

So many things have happened. First I have to say that people are awesome. I know it’s hard to believe after the bombings at the Boston Marathon but that was the work of a very small minority, possibly even a single sick individual. But the runners of the marathon, who had just run 26 miles, some of them continued on after crossing the finish line for another 2 miles to the nearest hospital so they could donate blood! How amazing is that? What amazing human beings. This is what we should remember about this travesty, not the vile actions of a demented few or one, but the heroism of the people who were there. Rather than despair over the state of humanity, look at the people who at the end of a grueling marathon ran on even farther to donate blood to those injured by the blasts.

Ok, on to author updates: I got my first review on Amazon and it’s good! I am so glad someone enjoyed the story I wrote. As an author that is really what I want: for you, the reader to enjoy what I have written.

Also Feminspire published an article I wrote about vaccinations and it has been getting a lot of shares on Facebook. My editor at The Geek Girl Project has told me I can write on any geeky topic my little heart desires so expect some more old movie reviews. I’m thinking my Gatcheman article will lead naturally into one about Mach Go! Go! Or as we came to know and love it in the US: Speed Racer.

All of this and I simply have let War In Flesh slide. I have had a lot of ideas for specific sections I want to write though and that is very good. Once those hit a critical mass I’ll not be able to stop writing.

I was hoping to get a nice block of time to work on War In Flesh today but it has become errand day. I do find this somewhat frustrating even though I know these things must be done. Confession time: I look at my author friends and they seem to get so much more done than I do. And I can’t use my life as an excuse; they are every bit as busy as I am. So I wonder what my problem is. What am I doing wrong? Why can’t I crank out the new book in a matter of days or weeks? Then I realize what a destructive thought spiral that is and try to tell myself to knock it off. That rarely works, by the way.

So here I am with half an article written for Feminspire that needs to be finished. Also I’m about half way through a bonus article for TGGP that I wanted to finish up before now, there is another Godzilla movie to watch and review. Then there is War In Flesh. I’m reaching the point where I want to work on it a lot more than I’ve been able to. This is also a very good sign for the novel

I know this was an odd update and I thank you for following along. Hopefully things will settle back down and we’ll be back to updates on my novel. K.

A Day Derailed and Prayers for Boston and all my Runner Friends

Hopefully it goes without saying that our prayers are with the victims of the Boston Marathon bombings and we wish Godspeed to those in law enforcement who are seeking the insane individuals behind it.

Most of this blog was written before the horrific events in Boston hit the 24-hour news cycle. I’m including the original here because to do otherwise would be to let evil win out. These things happened and these were my thoughts and actions before I learned of what had happened.

I spent a considerable part of my day trying to get In The Flesh uploaded to iTunes. I’m running into some real problems with that. iTunes Producer says it has uploaded my file but when I check the metadata it says there is no content. This is disturbing on many levels. I’ve spent most of my time since then trying to find out what the problem might be.

I’m using Scrivener for Mac on a MacBook Air and I’m using iTunes Producer. It shouldn’t be all that difficult. I did find one article on how to go into the code and brute force it through but I hate looking at code, I really do. I would rather do a huge thermodynamic problem than sift through code.

I’m going to keep looking. What is really frustrating is that I had no problem getting a proof copy uploaded to my iPad to read it and check for errors. Speaking of which I found a huge and strange error where it looked like some foreign word was smashed into another word in one chapter, probably the result of the jumpy mouse on that cursed Acer I had. I’ve corrected that and it is fixed on Amazon and should be on Kobo.

Since I have the ePub already compiled I might as well dive into getting In The Flesh up on Barnes and Nobel too. Between that and iTunes today will be a loss for creating new content for War In Flesh, which is a shame because things were just starting to get good there. Although, who knows. Maybe one or both will go well and I can move on.

The Geek Girl Project posted my review of Cloverfield as part of the monster movie series of reviews I’m doing as a run up to the 2014 Godzilla movie release. Cloverfield was a bad movie and my review reflects that. Look for my review of IDW’s Godzilla #11 comic this week and Godzilla vs. Mothra. I’m also working on an article about Gatcheman for TGGP and I may cross post it here as well.

I’m posting links on Tumblr for M31 Publishing and I can’t help but wonder if that is a big waste of time for me. I’ve been trying to be more of a presence on Goodreads but with my computer issues of late that’s been difficult. Because time is at a premium I really need to be careful about how I chose to spend it. Between blogging, maintaining a presence on Facebook and trying to get some actual work done on War In Flesh my day gets used up pretty quickly. And that doesn’t even take into account the day to day chores of life: laundry, dishes, getting groceries, cooking and picking up around the place. (As a side note it seems that I haven’t done dishes unless I’m wearing a half gallon of soapy water and can mop just from spillage.)

It was after all of this that I turned on the television and saw what had happened. Like everyone else my day came to a screeching halt as my heart went out to those who were so brutally violated on what should have been a joyful day. I am just heartbroken about what happened in Boston as is everyone I know. I know a lot of runners and the impact upon my friends has been huge. They feel this deeply and I with them. Even though we were fortunate that none of my personal friends was running the Boston Marathon, I know many of them secretly dream of qualifying and making it there. I ache for them and for everyone else physically and emotionally harmed by the actions of a sick few, or one.

In The Flesh Update, Godzilla Reviews on The Geek Girl Project and General News

Well, gentle reader, I haven’t posted too much this week. For that I apologize.  I have been extra busy finalizing the formatting to get In The Flesh ready for print on demand for those of you interested in a physical copy of the book.   I’ll look over the final proof today and if all is as it should be I’ll give the ok and next week sometime I should have a link where you can get a copy.

I also am planning on having In The Flesh available on Kobo and through iTunes.  I need to see what the hang up is over at Kobo and then get my hands on a mac to upload to iTunes.  In The Flesh is already avalible via Amazon for the kindle and other eReaders here.

In other news I was asked to write a series of articles about Godzilla for The Geek Girl Project, probably because they know I’m a squeeing Godzilla fan-girl.  I’m reviewing the movies, starting with the original Gojira and some comic books.

I’ll also do an article on Gatcheman and the upcoming live action movie coming out on that.  Now, keep in mind that I’m not a critic.  I’m a fan.

I plan to start outlining the sequel to In The Flesh next week and it is tentatively titled War In Flesh.
